Vitamin Supplements: The Key To Looking Ageless

By Maarya Sheikh.

When it comes to youthful radiance, what you put inside your body is as important, if not more than what you put on top of your skin. A well-rounded diet works wonders for our overall health, which shines through in our skin and hair. Getting all the necessary nutrients helps our body repair itself, generate new cells, and keep free radicals at bay.

If you follow a restrictive diet like veganism or keto, supplements can help you get all the nutrients your body needs. Pills are no substitute for a balanced diet, but they can give our bodies a much-needed boost. There’s now evidence they can even help us combat some of the signs of premature aging.

A lot of different vitamins and minerals are involved in improving our skin’s resilience and suppleness. Here are a few that can help your skin age gracefully:

Vitamin A

This immunity-boosting vitamin is a retinoid, which has the added benefit of promoting skin cell growth. That’s why retinol shows up time and again in anti-aging skincare. Taking this vitamin orally helps prevent cell damage and skin-related diseases.

Vitamin B Complex

The B group are some of the most essential vitamins and can be found in the healthiest foods like fish and leafy greens. Vitamins B6 and B9 in particular, are shown to help promote cell turnover and give the skin a healthy, lit-from-within glow.

Vitamin C

An ingredient that often shows up in brightening serums, vitamin C is another powerful antioxidant that combats free radicals and keeps our skin looking young and fresh. Constant exposure to pollution and sunlight depletes our skin’s vitamin C, so it’s important to replenish daily.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is excellent for our bone health, boosting our mood, and also preventing premature aging. It’s perhaps ironic since sun exposure, which helps our bodies naturally produce vitamin D, can cause damage to our skin after prolonged periods. So if you’re staying indoors, it’s crucial to top up on this vitamin.

You’ve probably seen a lot of plumping and anti-aging products formulated with collagen, but their effectiveness is dubious since the collagen molecule is too large to penetrate the skin. There is evidence that you’re better off just eating it. In addition to lubricating joints, collagen supplements can help skin look more supple and hydrated, as well as strengthen our hair and nails.

This mineral, which is found in red meat and fish, has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, regulate the production of new cells, and even help manage acne. So if your diet contains little to no meat, be sure to add this one to your shelf.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 Fatty Acids don’t just fight inflammation and maintain brain health: they also help our skin stay hydrated. As we age, our skin begins to thin out and become drier. Omega-3 supplements are shown to help in repairing the cell membrane, keeping it hydrated and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
