Key Takeaway Trends From The Oscars 2022

After two years of a pandemic disrupting our lives, everything came back with a bang, and that includes the Oscars. As they walked down the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre on the 27th of March, the stars decided to go all out, glamming up the Academy Awards once more. From bright and bold to understated and elegant, we saw it all.

Here are a couple of trends that dominated the Oscars this year:

Ruby Red | The Soorat

Ruby Reds:

You can’t go wrong with red. Various celebrities rolled up in striking red ensembles; bright, beautiful and bold red gowns reigned over the event.

Kristen Dunst and Ariana DeBose took their looks in two completely different directions. Dunst, who was nominated for “The power of the dog,”  wore a vintage Christian LaCroix gown, made out of semi sheer fabric. The strapless gown, rippled elegantly attracting attention, however her lack of accessories toned down her look. DeBose, nominated for West Side Story, on the other hand wore a custom Valentino, edgy two piece, in solid scarlet. Her dramatic red cape and defined bodice created a very futuristic look, coupled with her bold haircut, she looked stunning. Rosie Perez, a presenter at the Awards, wore a Christian Siriano skin-tight halter dress, looking fabulous. Moreover Jennifer Garner who often walks the red carpet in something eye-catching, wore a pencil like off the shoulder, column dress. Meanwhile, Tracee Ellis dazzled us all with her daring neckline, coupled  with a bright white choker of pearls. All these ladies looked ravishing in red.

White Crisp Shirts | The Soorat

White Crisp Shirts:

Over the years we have come to expect lavish gowns, and ladies dripping in diamonds, however these women decided to change up the game. These ladies dumped the dresses, wore crisp white shirts, and looked classy doing it.

Kristen Steward has been impressing us with her ensembles lately, first her sequin dress and now this. The actress  was nominated for her performance in ‘Spencer,’ and decided to choose a bold look. She wore a custom made Chanel Couture mini suit, in black, with a white shirt, unbuttoned to the waistline. To top it all her feet were in black stiletto heels, not a look just anyone can pull off. Next we have the up and coming trend-setter, who also wore a white shirt. Zendaya walked down the carpet in an ab showing Valentino two-piece. She wore a cropped shirt, with fitted sleeves, up till the elbow, coupled with a shiny, trailing skirt. Looking stylish and sophisticated, she’s one girl who never stops surprising us.

Arriving onto the carpet in a chic Bottega Veneta, Uma Therman looked dignified in a loosely fitting white silk shirt and a black column skirt, cut perfectly to the floor. Lastly, One of the three ceremony presenters was in an all white Pamella Roland tux. Wanda Sykes didn’t just walk down the carpet in white, she wore a white monochrome suit, accessorized with crystal buttons, and a Sergio Hudson jacket.

Speaking of monochrome suits, that is our next trend.

Suits are Fluid | Monochrome Suits | The Soorat

Suits are Fluid: Monochrome Suits

While suits were initially made for men, women tend to wear them better. As we’ve already mentioned Wanda Sykes, we’re going to move onto the dapper looking suit, worn by Diane Warren. The 65 year old songwriter wore a glowing green blazer with matching slacks, and a black turtleneck. She wasn’t the only one rocking a monochrome suit, Kodi Smit-Pcphee wore a powder blue Bottega Vaneta, while Wesley Snipes sported a shiny burgundy Givenchy shorts-suit, with matching tights, and looked magnificent doing so. Marvel’s latest movie star Simu Liu looked studly in an Atelier Versace red tuxedo. Lastly we’re going to mention the star of Dune, Timothee Chalamet who played tribute to his character on the desert planet of Arrakis, by forgoing his shirt completely, and walking down the red carpet in a Black Louis Vuitton sequined jacket, with cropped black pants.

Pretty Pastels | The Soorat|

Pretty Pastels:

With Spring here it’s no surprise pastels are on the rise. In yet another ode to the iconic Audrey Hepburn, Zoe Kravits wore a pale pink, elegant Saint Lauren gown, delicately pleated. Combined with a slick updo, Kravitz successfully captured Hepburn's timeless beauty. Another star who looked classy in a misty rose gown was Mila Kunis. Her satin draped, belted gown was from Zuhair Murad’s Spring 2022 Couture collection, and featured an asymmetrical neckline and ruched bodice. Three actresses who sparkled in particular all wore pastel gowns with shiny appliques. Their silhouettes however varied. Star of ‘Pam and Tommy’ Lily James wore Atelier Versace, with a flowing train, and ballet slippers, like something out of a fairytale. King Richard actress Saniyya Sidney’s pink and blue strapless gown, embodied spring, as she glided over the carpet while her co-star Demi Singleton looked ravishing in Miu Miu’s lavender tea-length dress, revealing her ankles.

This year the Oscars were all about those popping colors and all the stars dressed to dazzle. Be bold, be daring, and dress to impress, that’s what setting trends is all about.
