So Eid is just around the corner and for most of us, you know what that means: stuffing our faces silly. We can’t stop thinking about all the mouth-watering dishes we’re going to be feasting on this Eid! But there are a few other things that are also super important when celebrating this fun three-day event. For me, one of those things is having super hydrated and clean skin. Sounds simple, right? Wrong!

We all know how it goes. The week before Eid, we have super clear-looking skin. And then the night before Eid, disaster strikes in the form of a huge pimple on our faces that nobody will be able to ignore. Eid day is then spent applying as much concealer as we can to hide the pimple, without looking like we just dumped our faces in a container full of flour.

So how do we avoid this problem? And what causes it? The answer to both these questions is having a consistent skin-care routine. The week before Eid, I start typically concentrating on having super clear-looking skin. It takes discipline but a consistent skin-care routine is really all it takes to feel the incredible difference even within 5-7 days.

I tend to get daunted when I think about how elaborate these skin-care routines are when advertised by beauty bloggers and celebrities on different social media platforms. In fact, just look at the gorgeous Naimal Khawer. Her skin is always on point and you would think it would take a Korean pop star’s routine to get that glow going. However, it doesn’t need to be so arduous. In this article, I’m going to be covering a simple three-step skincare routine that helped me achieve stable and clear skin like hers. Hopefully, they will also leave your skin looking as flawless as mine! Some of these products are not even available at The Soorat. I’m excited to share these as one of the first ‘Seditors’ of Soorat, my hot favorites. Without further ado, here are the steps!

1. Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse!

Do you know what causes that nasty pimple to erupt on your forehead? A buildup of dead skin cells, dirt, oil, and other impurities on the surface of your skin. If you don’t cleanse your skin enough, this can lead to clogged pores...and hence the mighty pimple. The right facial cleanser will not only clean this debris off of your skin, but will also set you up for healthy, balanced skin. Choosing the right facial cleanser for your skin is super important! If you have dry skin and you use a cleanser with deep-cleansing properties, it can strip your skin of its protective barrier, irritate it, and thereby cause it to produce more sebum to compensate for the dryness. If you use a cleanser that’s too rich or creamy, it can clog your pores. We recommend CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser as the one-stop solution to all your cleansing problems!

Also keep in mind that if you wear long-lasting makeup, you should always use a good makeup remover before setting out to cleanse your skin. This helps to strip away the makeup without being unnecessarily harsh on the skin. Also, cleanser talk aside, always remember to wash your face with water at room temperature, since water that is too hot can also irritate or dry out your skin! If your skin is looking a little lack-luster, you can also use a gentle exfoliating cleanser to scrub away the dead skin cells. We recommend The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, which uses chemical rather than manual exfoliants, for that extra-gentle exfoliation.

2. Prepping and Toning

The next step in this three-step process is prepping your skin by toning it. You can do this by using a simple toning solution. Toning the skin helps to hydrate it so it can better absorb the skincare ingredients in skincare products. Not all toners are the same, so choose one that best suits your purpose! If you have a dull complexion and want a toner that brightens your skin, choose one that contains brightening ingredients like Vitamin C. We recommend Pixi Vitamin-C Tonic for this.

If you want an anti-aging toner, use a toner that is rich in antioxidants such as genistein, resveratrol, and pumpkin seed extract. These will soothe your skin and help prevent inflammation, which is a visible effect of aging. We recommend Paula's Choice Skin Recovery Enriched Calming Toner. There are plenty of different toners for different skin types, so make sure you choose the one that works the best for you!

3. Moisturize!

If you want to skip out on an elaborate skincare routine, chuck the serums and masks, but never skip out on facial moisturizer. This helps create a protective barrier over the skin, helping to maintain the health of your skin barrier, and allows you to go about your day with your skin hydrated and protected. If you don’t use enough moisturizer, that will lead to dryness and itchiness, and inevitably, breakouts. Keep in mind that if you sleep in an air-conditioned room, you should use a richer moisturizer. I recommend Clinique Superdefense Broad Spectrum SPF 25. This multitasking moisturizer not only offers sun defense but also has vitamins C and E for antioxidant protection, as well as energizing ingredients such as caffeine, creatinine, and carnitine. As a result, you will have smooth and bright skin all day long!

And so that’s it! Hopefully, these simple skin-care steps will leave your skin clear and ready for that Eid day glow!
