An 8 Step Ramadan Evening Ritual for Skincare Lovers
The month of Ramadan is around the corner and for many of us that means abstinence and an aim to maintain disciplined spiritual and nutrition routines. Despite our best intentions to nourish the body correctly, few of us can abstain from crispy fried savories and sweets being served at a lavish Iftar or Suhoor. Sleep patterns are also disrupted and water consumption plummets causing our bodies to react accordingly to symptoms such as constipation, bloating and dehydrated skin.
Our suggestion is to focus on a more extensive evening routine when you have the energy and focus to nourish both your skin and your soul. Follow this easy evening skincare ritual that pays special attention to your skin and prevents it from drying out and promises a beautiful morning glow!
Step 1: Hydrate
Start With Water
Drink as much water as you can between Iftar and Suhoor. The key to healthy skin is hydration, so start your evening skincare routine with a big glass of water and then move onto cleansing.
Step 2: Exfoliate
Eminence Citrus Exfoliating Wash
Firstly cleanse your skin with an exfoliating wash once or twice a week, depending on how dry dehydrated it is. A lack of water during Ramadan leads to excessive dead skin cells, which gives your face a flaky dull look. Eminence Citrus Exfoliating Wash gently exfoliates the skin, without damaging it. Fresh lime juice removes toxins and dead skin, while silica and grapefruit seed leave the skin feeling light and clear.
This cruelty free, vegan and organic product is the ideal choice for dry to combination skin.
Step 3: Tone
Kiehl’s Calendula Herbal Extract Toner
Once your face is cleansed you want to make sure your skin is evenly toned. This will address any pigmentation issues that occur due to excessive dryness and lack of moisture.
Kiehl’s calendula herbal extract toner is a soothing alcohol free product, infused with calendula petals, allantoin and great burdock root. It works on all skin types ranging from normal to sensitive. We suggest Kiehl’s toner due to its lack of harsh synthetic skin drying agents; it balances out your skin without damaging it.
Once again no animals were harmed in the making of this product, moving this vegan friendly cleanser to the top of our list.
Step 4: Add A Serum
Thalgo’s Hydra Marine Serum
We’ve taken a leaf out of the 10 step korean skincare regime, and thrown in hyaluronic acid and serum for good measure! Serums contain high levels of ingredients made to target problematic areas of the skin. Each individual will choose a serum that suits their skin's needs, however Thalgo’s Hydra Marine Serum goes a long way in treating skin irritations. This radiance serum helps you brighten your complexion and maintain a natural healthy glow, that is often lost during Ramadan, due to lack of water!
Step 5: Moisturize
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Face Cream Gel
One of the most important parts of an essential skincare routine is using a good, hydrating moisturizer. While the markets are flooded with various face creams you need one that locks in moisture. The best part is you don’t need an expensive moisturizer to do the job.
Neutrogena’s hydro boost face cream gel is a lightweight, non comedogenic, quick absorbing formula that works to hydrate your dry skin while keeping it supple. It guarantees long lasting moisture and hydration. Additionally this product contains Hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in our skin. This acid can hold 100 times its weight in water, making sure all your cells are hydrated, throughout the day. Maintain an oil free, yet thoroughly moisturized complexion this Ramadan.
Step 6: Eye Cream
The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream
Eye Creams help us on the best of days, but they do wonders during Ramadan. Our sleeping patterns are completely different, which can lead to dark circles and puffiness.
The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream is super hydrating and lightweight. This product contains matrixyl 3000 which helps boost collagen and instantly reduces the appearance of dark circles, puffiness and fine lines. The caffeine within the eye cream gives your skin a boost that coffee would usually take care of. Eye cream can be used in the AM or PM, we suggest using it when you wake up, whenever that is, to get the burst you need to start or restart your day.
Step 7: Boost your Immunity
If you aren't getting your vitamins from your diet you need to get them from somewhere else. To make sure your body is still protected and fully functioning while you fast, have early dinner or take vitamins and supplements with your iftar meal depending on the time you can stomach them. m Vitamin C and D are particularly important for your body during this time. Vitamin C works to repair all your body tissues, while Vitamin D protects your immunity and heart health!
Step 8: Get Some Shut Eye
Finish your routine by drinking another glass of water and get some proper zzzs.
Sleep is vital for skin regeneration, as it happens the fastest when you are resting. It is also vital for digestion, and to avoid a leaky gut, which makes sure all the toxins continue to flow out of your body. So make sure you catch some shut eye!
