We’ve all gone through our awkward teen years, struggling with acne and the marks it left behind. Some of us still suffer from it because no matter what we do, the marks just don’t seem to go away! But do not fear, here are some of our tried and tested methods to give your skin a flawless glow.

Essential Oils:
Let’s be honest, we’ve all wanted to try them. Turns out, most essential oils have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that work perfectly for clearing up acne. Using them is easy, but the key is to choose the right oil. Trial and error are the way to go but choosing the right one is the key, and for that, you need to know your skin type. Our favorite has to be rosehip oil but marula oil, jojoba oil, argan oil, and tea tree oil are all great options. Mix it with some hyaluronic acid for the extra oomph.

Aloe Vera Gel
Our mothers and grandmothers swore by aloe vera for generations – for a good reason too! Aloe vera’s healing and soothing qualities are ideal for helping with acne-prone skin. You simply apply the aloe vera on your face generously, or spot treat your acne breakout areas, leave it overnight and wash it off in the morning. It can be grown at home or it can be a store-bought gel, both work equally well.

Water, Water, and More Water:
Water is quite literally, the solution to most of our problems. Not only does it help flush out toxins from our kidneys, but it also gives us great skin and keeps us hydrated. Don’t skip your sips, ladies. A hydrated body is a happy, acne-free body!

This sticky, sweet alternative to sugar is great for your overall health, but its antibacterial and antioxidant properties are amazing for hair growth, for removing blackheads and for treating acne. It absorbs the moisture from a pimple and reduces swelling, and all you have to do is gently dab some honey on to the affected area, leave it there for 30 minutes and wash it off first with warm, and then cold water. Overuse of this technique may cause a worse breakout of acne, so be careful!

Remember turmeric or haldi, that spice that always leaves our fingers and nails yellow for days? It’s a spice that is easily available in the market and that’s a good thing too because it helps fight acne. You can mix it with either lemon, lime or aloe juice, almond oil, milk or honey. Mix 1 part of turmeric with 1 part of your substance of choice, apply it to the affected area for 30 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. There may be a stain from the turmeric but fear not, it’ll go away with one wash!
